Smriti Mandhana moves to 2nd spot in ICC ODI batting rankings

Smriti Mandhana is on the verge of reclaiming the top spot in the ICC Women's ODI batting rankings, climbing to second after her stellar performance in the Tri-Nation tournament in Sri Lanka. Her impressive 264 runs, including a century in the final, have put her within striking distance of South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt.

Indian opener Smriti Mandhana inched closer to regaining the number one spot in the ICC Women's ODI batting rankings, after she rose one place to second on the list after playing a key role in India's triumph in the recent Tri-Nation tournament in Sri Lanka.

The left-handed batter, was top ranked batter in 2019, was in sublime form in the tri-series against Sri Lanka and South Africa. She scored 264 runs in five innings, including a century in the final.

The 28-year-old is only 11 rating points away from top-ranked South African captain Laura Wolvaardt, who managed just 86 runs during the Tri-Series.

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu made a rise in the top 10 as she climbed two places to seventh after scoring 139 runs in the series, while Jemimah Rodrigues (up five spots to 15th) and South Africa's Chloe Tryon (up nine places to 18th) also improved.

Among bowlers, India's Deepti Sharma improved one place to fifth overall following impressive efforts in Sri Lanka.

There were also gains for Tryon (up three places to 11th) and de Klerk (up four spots to 12th).
