Shami Responds to Retirement Speculations

Mohammed Shami has swiftly addressed the swirling rumors regarding his potential retirement from Test cricket, particularly as India prepares for a crucial Test series in England. Taking to Instagram, Shami expressed that such speculation has negatively impacted his future and urged journalists to share positive stories about him in the future. The prominent Indian fast bowler is currently facing challenges in regaining his form after an extended break from the sport.

Shami's Frustration with Media Reports

In his post, Shami stated: “Very well done, King. Look at your job, too, first, and see how many days are left before focusing on me. Guys like you have destroyed my future. At least try to speak good things, sometimes. This is today’s worst story, I am sorry.”

He shared a screenshot from a media outlet suggesting that he might retire from Test cricket, following the recent announcements from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli regarding their own retirements.

Concerns Over Shami's Fitness

Despite the absence of Sharma and Kohli from the upcoming five-Test series in England, there are concerns that Shami might also miss out due to fitness issues. He had returned from injury just before the 2025 Champions Trophy, where he played a key role in India's title victory. However, his performance in IPL 2025 has been less than stellar, with only six wickets in nine matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad, resulting in an average of 56.17.
