Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the AIIMS Trauma Center in Delhi to gather updates on the health of security personnel injured during a 21-day anti-Naxal operation in the Karegutla hills along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border. Chhattisgarh's Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma was also present during the visit.
Among the five injured personnel are three Cobra commandos from the CRPF, one CRPF soldier, and a member of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) from Chhattisgarh.
The injured include Assistant Commandant Sagar Borade from the 204th Cobra Battalion, Head Constable Munish Chand Sharma from the 203rd Cobra Battalion, Constable Dhanu Ram from the 204th Cobra, Constable Krishna Kumar Gurjar from the 196th CRPF Battalion, and Constable Santosh Murami from the DRG. This week, 31 Maoists were neutralized in the Karegutla hills, marking a significant achievement in India's largest anti-Maoist campaign. Sources indicate that the operation also led to the recovery of 450 IEDs and 40 weapons.
Amit Shah described this operation as a historic accomplishment, with substantial quantities of ammunition, detonators, and explosives seized, along with 12,000 kilograms of other materials, including medicines and electrical equipment.
In a post on Wednesday, Shah remarked, "Once ruled by red terror, the hills now proudly wave the tricolor," emphasizing the government's commitment to eradicate Maoism by March 2026. He highlighted the success of security forces in this extensive operation, which resulted in the elimination of 31 notorious Maoists in the Karegutla hills, an area previously dominated by Maoist influence.
The Karegutla hills served as a central hub for major Maoist organizations, including PLGA Battalion 1, DKSZC, TSC, and CRC, where training and weaponry were developed.
Amit Shah expressed pride in the fact that this major anti-Naxal operation was completed by security forces in just 21 days without any casualties. He commended the bravery of the CRPF, STF, and DRG personnel who faced the Maoists despite challenging weather and difficult terrain. He reassured the nation that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the commitment to eliminate Naxalism is unwavering, and he reiterated that India will be free from Naxalism by March 31, 2026.
