Fermin Lopez completed the victory for the Blaugrana, who took home their 28th La Liga championship, after Lamine Yamal scored an amazing goal. They currently lead second-place Real Madrid, their bitter rivals, by seven points. After 36 games, Barcelona leads with 27 victories and only five losses. They have two matches left to play.
Real needed to win their next three games and hope the leaders didn’t pick up more than one point in a single game after Sunday’s 4-3 defeat to Barcelona in order to keep their mathematical hopes of winning the championship alive. It completes coach Hansi Flick’s incredible first season at Barcelona, where his team has won both the La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
Wojciech Szczesny, the goalkeeper for Barca, produced a spectacular reflex stop to block a close-range attempt by Javi Puado in one of numerous risky Espanyol counterattacks, making the home team seem to have been superior in the first half.
When it seemed like Barca had run out of strategies to defeat their opponents, teenage wonder Lamine Yamal came through with a spectacular goal using what has become his signature move.
Before launching a curling shot between two players and into the top corner, the 17-year-old grabbed the ball on the right touchline and executed an incredible lateral run parallel to the box’s edge.
“Lamine practices his goal a lot; he scored twice today in the same manner during the warm-up. After the game, his colleague Pedri said, “We have to take care of him and let him enjoy it; he is fantastic.”

Barca gained confidence following Yamal’s goal, and substitute Lopez completed the victory to start the championship celebrations when Leandro Cabrera was sent off with a straight red for elbowing the 17-year-old in the body in the 80th minute.
After playing Villarreal at home on Sunday, Barcelona will play Athletic Club away on May 25 to round off the victorious season.
