star paid an emotional tribute during this week's episode of the BBC series (May 16) after an avid gardener shared his powerful story of mental health recovery. In honour of Mental Health Awareness Week, Monty visited a tranquil garden in Oxfordshire, where he was introduced to Elliot - a man who has battled bipolar disorder and found profound healing through the power of .

Speaking candidly on the show, Elliot revealed: "Early in 2018 I experienced my first major mental health crisis. And then the winter of 2022 I was almost catatonic with a depressive state." He went on to describe how working in his garden became a turning point for his recovery. "You know they are all certainly worst places to be holed up and the garden became sanctuary and school at the same time. Being able to just come out here, get your hands on the ground, feel the sun on your back and just look at something that you've grown from seed or smell a rose, watch the bees, it's a real tonic.

"I am just level, I'm positive and I'm happy."

Monty was visibly moved by Elliot's story, telling viewers: "I don't think anyone would fail to be moved by Elliot's story and it will be familiar to many people, myself included, and there is something about the garden and nature that you have to be truthful and truthful to you - and that's a kind of mysterious but very powerful healing force."

Speaking about his partner, Jac, Elliot gushed through tears: "Jac saved me. She got me the help I needed it turned out that I was bipolar. With the new medication it was like someone had thrown the light switch in the stadium.

"I'm crying but it was actually brilliant. I think this is all just happened just the right time because now I've got my camera out again, it's dusted off. I'm taking photos of the garden plants and I've got my passion for photography back as well."

The BBC gardening expert has also been open about his struggles with depression over the years.

Meanwhile, Monty Don has delighted fans by revealing that his garden at this year's Chelsea Flower Show will feature some very special guests - including his beloved golden retriever, Ned.

Although he's never previously designed a garden for the prestigious event, Monty was persuaded to take part after being asked to create a dog-friendly space for the showcase. And it turns out Ned won't be attending alone.

Speaking during an interview on The One Show, Monty told hosts Roman Kemp and Alex Jones: "Here's the other thing, Ned's mother and sister, who he's never seen since I took him away at eight weeks old are also going to be there."

He welcomed Ned into his life in October 2022, and the pup quickly became a fan favourite thanks to his regular appearances on Monty's gardening shows.

After the show ends, the thoughtfully designed garden will be moved to Battersea Dogs Home. True to its canine focus, Monty explained that the space avoids straight paths, favouring a more natural layout "to reflect the meandering way dogs prefer to walk".
