On May 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lead a crucial meeting with the Chief Ministers of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh to address the Polavaram project, as reported on Monday.

This meeting marks the first time PM Modi will focus specifically on this contentious issue.

The discussions arise amid escalating tensions between states regarding the potential land submergence and displacement linked to the project. Several neighboring states, especially Odisha, have voiced their concerns, indicating that the project could inundate villages and displace tribal populations within their territories.

The Polavaram Project is a significant multi-purpose irrigation initiative located on the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh, primarily aimed at irrigation, hydropower generation, and supplying drinking water.
