Opal from Thailand’s inspirational path from stage aspirations to a breast cancer campaign

Opal, who represents Thailand internationally, started her pageantry career at the age of 18, motivated by a childhood desire to display her elegance, ability, and intellect in front of the public. However, what started out as a pursuit of the throne ultimately developed into a far more significant mission that still has an influence on people’s lives both within and outside of her nation.

After three years of competing in pageants, Opal discovered that she was attracted to a cause that had subtly gained traction years before: raising awareness of breast cancer. Her bond with the cause was very personal rather than impersonal. She had a significant operation at the age of 16 to remove benign tumors from both breasts, one of which was 8 cm in size and the other was 10 cm. Despite being terrifying, the event was life-changing. Life had changed, she thought for the first time as she waited by herself outside the surgery room. She muses, “I knew I had to live my life on my own and live it well from that moment.”

It had not occurred to her that telling that narrative on a pageant stage would lead to a movement. One admirer in the crowd, who is also facing breast cancer, found inspiration and comfort in Opal’s courage and tenacity. Later, the fan contacted Opal to let her know that her comments had helped her get through the most trying time of her treatment, and that she is now cancer-free.

The deep effect of that conversation inspired Opal to start her project, “Opal for Her,” a sincere endeavor that combines her platform with a mission. The campaign’s initial goal was to raise awareness via easily available media, especially podcasts. Interviews with breast cancer sufferers, survivors, medical professionals, government leaders, and even World Health Organization members are included in her first podcast series, Braveheart. Opal went around Thailand collecting and sharing impactful tales with just a phone and a determination to change the world.

After winning the national pageant, Opal’s popularity increased. She started generating money for the cause by collaborating with businesses, organizations, and even clothing firms. Prima Jewellery Thailand is one of her favorite partnerships. Together, they produced a meaningful jewelry line that she individually designed and dubbed “Daobrak,” which translates to “Flower of Love” in English. A portion of the money raised from this collection will support Thai breast cancer efforts. The jewelry, which will formally debut in July, represents hope and support for women battling breast cancer in addition to being a fashion statement. Opal even gave the pieces to her followers as a token of love and affection before leaving for her international competition.

Her art has an effect that goes beyond consciousness. Opal recently celebrated her birthday by collaborating with a Thai hospital to provide 40 impoverished women with free mammograms and ultrasounds. “Illness causes many women worldwide to lose their dreams,” she adds. And other people die only because they are unable to pay for medical care. I must assist if I have the resources and the opportunity.

Opal, a third-year student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in politics and international relations, juggles activism with education. She intends to resume her studies after Miss World, finish her last year, and maybe go on to get a master’s or even a doctorate. She also wants to pursue a career in diplomacy, which fits very well with her academic background and her belief in compassion and world harmony.

She has a mature and perceptive viewpoint on the current state of the world. Opal thinks diplomacy is crucial at a time when many nations are embroiled in strife. She observes that “the innocent people suffer the most whenever there is a conflict.” “We must always aim for compromise, have conversations, and look for diplomatic solutions.”

Opal gives a kind and supportive response when asked what advise she would give young ladies who want to compete in pageants like Miss World. “Please come if you’re considering it,” she adds. “I’ve had some of the greatest experiences of my life in only one week here. You get to know incredible ladies from across the globe, each with an inspirational story to share. Being true to yourself and arriving with a purpose is more important than being the most flawless person.

She spoke positively of the kind hospitality she received in Telangana, India. Everyone welcomed the candidates with wide arms, from Telangana Tourism to the host location. According to her, “I’ll always have it with me.” “This place has been incredibly generous and kind.”

“You are not alone,” is Opal’s heartfelt and powerful message to breast cancer sufferers. You are resilient, and I will support you all the way. Have faith in yourself, no matter what you are going through. It will improve. We say in Thailand that cancer fears laughter and joy, so always laugh, smile, and appreciate life’s little pleasures. Opal’s journey serves as an example of how pageantry can be a powerful platform for change, offering much more than just glitter and glamor. With “Opal for Her,” a voice and a desire have evolved into a movement that, one woman at a time, heals, inspires, and changes lives.
