NMC has issued an advisory warning medical students, as well as rules for students studying medicine abroad.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an advisory for students, parents, and others, this advisory is about unauthorized medical colleges and offshore medical courses. In the advisory, students have been warned against those institutions which are giving medical admission citing fake recognition.

NMC said that only medical colleges listed on the official website are allowed to give degrees of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and other degree courses. Do not take admission in any college not listed because they have not been given permission.

What advice is given in the advisory?

The advisory advised, 'Only medical colleges listed on the official website nmc.org.in (https://www.nmc.org.in/information-desk/college-and-course-search/) are allowed to conduct MBBS and other medical degree programs in India. Institutions not included in the official list of NMC are unauthorized and are violating the NMC rules. The Commission ensures to update the list on a regular basis.'

Action being taken against 2 institutions

The names of 2 such institutions have come to light in the country, which were taking admissions in a fraudulent manner. Singhania University in Rajasthan is allegedly facing legal action for running MBBS course without the recognition of NMC. Also, Sanjeevan Hospital and Medical College in Howrah, West, were found running medical courses without permission. Legal action is being initiated against the institute.

NMC has also informed the rules to those doing MBBS and other medical courses from abroad.

What is the rule?

The student must have completed a minimum of 54 months of medical education from a single institution.

The internship of 12 months must be completed in the same foreign university.

The clinical training should not be split across different institutions or countries.

The medium of instruction should be in English.

The candidate must have studied subjects listed in Schedule I.

The candidate must not be registered with the relevant professional regulatory body, or be eligible to obtain a license to practice medicine in the country where he/she obtained the degree, which is equivalent to the license granted to citizens of that country.
