MS Dhoni, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, is not expected to participate in the Indian Premier League again next season, according to Sanjay Bangar. Even though Dhoni’s ardent supporters wanted him to return, the former India cricket player told him to hang up his boots after the conclusion of the 2025 Indian Premier League.
Bangar said that he would declare “enough” and let CSK rebuild after a dismal season this time if he were Dhoni.
As Dhoni keeps his secrets to himself, Bangar believes the aging legend doesn’t need to lead CSK through a transitional period and allows Ruturaj Gaikwad, their first-appointed captain, to take over with a new team from the 2026 Indian Premier League.
Since regular captain Gaikwad’s elbow fracture, Dhoni has been guiding CSK in the 2025 Indian Premier League. The wicketkeeper-batter has also made a minimal impact with the bat, scoring just 196 runs in 13 innings despite playing lower in the order.
“I believe it’s very difficult to compete in such a competitive atmosphere at 43. Bangar said on ESPNcricinfo, “At 43, you will discover how taxing this competitive environment is on your body, even if you go and play some local cricket.”
“Enough,” I would say if I were MS, but it all comes down to that. “All right, I have played whatever I wanted to play and I have taken care of the franchise’s interest, if there is any, if that was the driving force. “However, you go on,” he said.
“If you’re there and believe that the changeover will occur quickly, there’s never a good moment to make a decision.” Okay, even if I leave now, the franchise will develop on its own; it will take a year longer, but I’m not going to be here for the entire cycle,” is a reasonable conclusion to draw. If I were in MS’s shoes, that is how I would see their role.
CSK’s results have not changed after Dhoni’s comeback.
The Super Kings, who had already eliminated themselves from the playoffs, lost to the Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday for the eleventh time in thirteen games. The CSK will play their last match against the Gujarat Titans on Sunday, facing a bottom-place finish.
