IPL 2025 Final Could Be Moved Out Of Kolkata, Ahmedabad Tipped As Alternative: Report

The final of the Indian Premier League 2025 could reportedly be moved out of Kolkata. The city was designated to host the final after their respective franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders, emerged as the title-winners in the previous season.
According to a report by thePress Trust of India (PTI), the BCCI officials are looking to work on a solution for all stakeholders and ensure that the tournament resumes early. The tournament was suspended after the escalated military tensions between India and Pakistan, which prompted the BCCI to announce a one-week suspension.
“As of now, there is no decision on IPL. BCCI officials are working out on the solutions. BCCI secretary, IPL Chairman are in talks with franchises and everyone, so very soon we will know about the decision, efforts are being made to resume the tournament early," said BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla.
The report claims while there won’t be any change regarding the hosts for Qualifier 1 and Eliminators, Kolkata, the city that was supposed to host the final, could miss out, citing weather concerns.
“As of now, there is no change in venues for the play-off stage, but it seems rain can affect the final in Kolkata. In that case, the final could be played in Ahmedabad," said the source.
The source also mentioned that the teams have been requested to assemble all the players with the tournament set to resume on May 16 or 17 in Lucknow. The final schedule is also expected to be announced tomorrow.
But both Delhi and Dharamsala won’t be able to host more games as the equipment has already been removed from the respective venues.
“All the teams have been asked to call back their players, the tournament will resume either on May 16 or 17 in Lucknow. The final schedule will be shared tomorrow (Monday)," a source was quoted as saying.
“Most likely, the matches will be held at four venues and Delhi and Dharamsala won’t get to host more matches. All the equipment has already been removed from these venues," added the source.
The BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, also mentioned how they are working together with the respective stakeholders to come to a final decision regarding the resumption of the league. But he also mentioned that they get the go-ahead from the Indian government as well.

“In the next few days, we will begin consultations with the franchises, broadcasters, sponsors and the state associations slated to host the remaining matches before crystallising into a decision on the league’s resumption," he mentioned.
“Given the importance of IPL at this juncture, it will also be prudent and necessary to take the nod of the Government of India before finalising the time for its restart."
