Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India] May 24: Sridharan Sriram, the assistant bowling coach for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), expressed that it is unjust to single out the team's middle order as the sole reason for their struggles in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
"Cricket is a multifaceted sport, and it’s not just about the middle order. It’s about our overall performance throughout the year and the outcomes we've faced. Therefore, it’s quite unfair to blame one specific aspect. However, we have a clear vision for the future, which is a positive takeaway," Sriram stated during a pre-match press briefing.
Currently, CSK finds itself at the bottom of the IPL standings, having secured only three victories against seven losses, totaling six points.
Sriram also commended CSK player Urvil Patel, highlighting his potential. "Urvil is a remarkable talent. He plays with great fearlessness and possesses quick reflexes, which is beneficial as a wicketkeeper. While it’s too early to consider him as the next keeper, he certainly brings value to our batting lineup. He has made a promising start in the IPL, having played just two matches, so we want to manage expectations around him," he remarked.
The upcoming 67th match of IPL 2025 will see CSK face the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. GT is currently enjoying a strong season, sitting at the top of the table with nine wins and four losses, accumulating 18 points from 13 matches.
Sriram also praised Sai Sudharsan, who has been selected for the Indian squad for a five-match Test series against England starting June 20. "Sai is an exceptional player. His dedication and development as a batsman over the past two years have been remarkable," he added.
