The cast for the highly anticipated Harry Potter TV reboot has been unveiled, with Dominic McLaughlin set to wave his wand as the iconic wizard. HBO confirmed today that Dominic will take on the role of , with Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout joining him as Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively. Though all three are fresh faces in the acting world, Dominic isn't entirely new to television; he's also part of the upcoming action-adventure series Gifted. The children's programme, based in Edinburgh, follows a group of Scottish teenagers who come to realise they possess extraordinary powers.
Dominic is also lined up for the film Grow, sharing the screen with Bridgerton's Golda Rosheuvel, Ted Lasso's Jeremy Swift, Shaun of the Dead's Nick Frost, and comedian Joe Wilkinson. Arabella, stepping into Hermione's shoes, brings her West End experience to the table, having starred in Matilda the Musical. Alastair rounds off the golden trio as Ron, with his previous acting credit being a commercial for potato brand Albert Bartlett, reports .
Executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod expressed their excitement over the casting, stating they are "delighted" with the new lineup following an "extraordinary search" that started in September of the previous year.
"The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen," they enthused.
"We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there."
HBO promises that the upcoming TV series, rooted in JK Rowling's beloved novels, will be a true-to-source adaptation. "Each season will bring Harry Potter to new and existing audiences," the broadcaster tantalisingly hints.
The trio of youthful stars are set to join an already impressive cast, featuring John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall.
John Lithgow, known for his roles in Conclave and Shrek, will make history as the first American actor to portray Dumbledore within the Harry Potter realm. The iconic role was previously embodied by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the film series, with Jude Law and Toby Regbo taking on the younger iterations in the Fantastic Beasts spin-offs.
