Citing the youthful group of players chosen for the series that begins on June 20 at Headingley, veteran top-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara feels that the next five-match Test tour of England is a significant turning moment for Indian cricket.
Following the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India has a new vice-captain in Rishabh Pant and a new captain in Shubman Gill as the young team prepares to enter a new era of playing Test cricket. In the past, India has only triumphed in three of 19 series against England; the latest victory was in 2007, when Rahul Dravid captained the team.
“With a youthful and vibrant team, this trip marks a major shift for Indian cricket. In a statement released by Sony Sports Network, where he will be featured as a panelist for the broadcasters’ coverage of the five-game series, Pujara remarked, “I am excited to see how this group rises to the occasion and sets new benchmarks for future generations.”
The remaining matches of the India-England Test series will be played at Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval. A new ICC World Test Championship cycle for India also begins with the series against England, captained by Ben Stokes.
Former India left-arm fast-bowling all-rounder Irfan Pathan has encouraged Gill’s team to defeat the formidable opponents they would face during the England trip. Pathan, whose marketing slogan for the Test series is “Ground Tumhara, Jeet Hamari,” will be included as a panelist for the broadcasters’ coverage.
In England, test cricket is the pinnacle of evaluating a player’s ability, disposition, and character. In addition to continuing a tradition, Team India is authoring a new chapter in our cricketing history with the emergence of a new generation.
“Ground Tumhara, Jeet Hamari” encapsulates this squad’s fearlessness and tenacity flawlessly. “This team has the talent and tenacity to tackle the most difficult tasks and motivate a fresh generation of supporters nationwide,” he said.
