At the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championship held at the Hong Kong Golf Club, Indian amateurs Krish Chawla and Ranveer Mitroo finished seventh in the boys’ team tournament with a combined score of four over 430. With a score of four-under 422, the Chinese duo of Jin Heng Yan and Jin Han took home the boys’ team championship.
Rainy weather made it challenging for those with lower scores. Ranveer, however, finished sixth in the individual event after putting up a respectable two-over 73 in the third and final rounds, continuing his incredible run in the competition. Of the four players dispatched by the Indian Golf Union (IGU), he had the best overall score of two-under 211. Krish’s three-round total of six-over 219 put him in 22nd place.
With a three-day total of nine-under 204, Cooper Moore of New Zealand defeated Tuan Anh Nguyen of Vietnam by two strokes to win the boys’ individual championship.
The 16-year-old Ranveer said the competition provided him with a “invaluable learning experience” and helped him better identify his areas of strength and improvement. “My confidence has significantly increased as a result of competing in a field like the APGC Juniors. I’ve been inspired to push myself by the competitive environment and the skilled athletes around me. My confidence in my skills has been strengthened after seeing that I can compete with formidable opponents,” Ranveer said.
“The Indian Golf Union’s assistance has been crucial to my growth as a player. The 16-year-old said, “They give me access to competitive opportunities that are essential for my development.”
Saanvi Somu finished her campaign in a respectable 10th position in the individual girls’ event after carding a two-over 74 in the final round. Even though she is still recuperating from her sickness, her colleague finished the competition in 19th place with a better three-over 75.
With a combined total of 16-over 448, Kashika and Saanvi, an Indian duo, came in eighth. At 11-over 437, the Indian duo of Krish and Saanvi finished their campaign in 13th place in the mixed team competition.
