Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi was welcomed at an event by a Kerala community in Dubai, sparking a new controversy.

Following the Pahalgam terror incident, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including a Nepali national, social media users criticized the organization for welcoming the cricketer so warmly only one month after he made anti-Indian statements.

Afridi was seen entering the stadium and speaking to the crowd on stage in a video that went viral on social media, sparking the tremendous outcry.

“The Kerala region of India and its cuisine,” he stated as he began his speech. ‘Boom, Boom,’ his well-known moniker, was being yelled by the excited crowd.

Particularly at a time when he made fun of the Indian Army after the Pahalgam terror assault, social media was ablaze with responses expressing rage at the organization and asking why the Pakistani cricketer was called.

“If a firecracker were to burst in India, fingers would always be pointed at Pakistan,” Afridi stated in a statement after the horrific Pahalgam incident.
