FIR filed against staff of Kohli’s restaurant over public health breach

Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli’s restaurant chain One8 Commune is once again surrounded by controversy. This time, it’s not about the food or the celebrity ownership, but a serious legal issue.

Bengaluru Police recently filed an FIR against the restaurant’s management. The reason is a violation of anti-smoking and public health laws.

On May 29, police conducted a routine inspection at the One8 Commune outlet in Bengaluru. During the raid, officials discovered that the restaurant had no designated smoking area.

This is a direct violation of the COTPA Act (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act). Under the law, all public places must have a clearly marked smoking zone. One8 Commune had none.

At first, police registered a non-cognizable report (NCR). Later, they sought court approval and lodged a formal FIR. The restaurant’s manager and staff have been named in the complaint.

Interestingly, Virat Kohli has not been named in the FIR. However, this has not stopped public and media pressure. Many are waiting for his official response.

So far, neither Kohli nor his team has issued any statement. Their silence has only fueled more speculation and debate.

This isn’t the first time One8 Commune’s Bengaluru outlet has come under fire.

In July 2024, the restaurant was in trouble for staying open past the permitted hours. Local residents had filed noise complaints. They reported disturbances and late-night chaos.

In response, police registered a case and issued a warning to the management.

Later, in December 2024, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) also took action. They sent a notice to the restaurant for fire safety violations.

According to the BBMP, the outlet did not possess a valid fire safety NOC (No Objection Certificate). This meant they were operating without fulfilling mandatory safety standards.

The issues with One8 Commune are not limited to Bengaluru alone.

Back in 2023, the Mumbai branch of the restaurant also faced backlash. A man from Tamil Nadu claimed he was denied entry for wearing a traditional veshti (a South Indian dhoti).

This incident sparked outrage on social media. Many users criticized the restaurant for being culturally insensitive and discriminatory.

The controversy quickly gained national attention. People demanded accountability and cultural respect from high-profile brands.

What’s Next?

The recent FIR has once again brought Kohli’s restaurant brand under scrutiny.

While the legal action names the staff and manager, many believe the celebrity owner should speak up. The public awaits a clear explanation or apology.

As of now, the Asian cricket icon has remained silent. But the pressure is building, and an official response may come soon.

The situation highlights the growing responsibility of celebrity-owned businesses. Fame brings attention—but it also brings accountability.
