New Delhi: Although the IPL 2025 season just finished a few teams are already ready to focus on the following season. There is a lot of discussion about important changes in the Lucknow Super Giants. In the period leading up to IPL 2025 LSG decided to break records by signing Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore and add outstanding coaches to their team. Even so the team did not play up to expectations. Thats why they could decide to remove a veteran from their lineup.
Following Lucknow Super Giants disappointing performance owner Sanjeev Goenka is devising a new strategy for the next season. According to a Cricbuzz report the franchises mentor Zaheer Khan faces an uncertain future. LSG won only 6 out of 14 matches this season finishing seventh in the points table. The teams failure to reach the playoffs under captain Rishabh Pant has led to questions being raised about mentor Zaheer Khans role.
Before the IPL 2025 mega auction the team named Zaheer Khan their mentor; however his agreement was only good for one year. It appears from various sources that the franchise is not happy with Zaheers play and will not likely re-sign him for the next season. With the help of Pant Zaheer decided to push the team forward with an aggressive strategy but injuries and poor results from players stopped this strategy from working out. Many people criticized Pant for his poor way of batting. Still Zaheer was always supportive of Pant and praised his performance at the end of the season.
Zaheer Khan was associated with the Mumbai Indians franchise from 2018 to 2022 serving first as the teams Director of Cricket and later as the Head of Global Development. Prior to this he was a player for three IPL teams – MI Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils. In total he played 100 matches for three teams across ten seasons taking 102 wickets at an economy rate of 7.58. He last played in the tournament in 2017.
