A second-year commerce student from Assam, who allegedly received instructions via social media to send a death threat and extortion demand to popular rapper Emiway Bantai, has been arrested by the NRI Coastal Police. The accused, identified as 18-year-old Arulv Rameshkumar Alohi, was taken into custody from Assam after a joint operation by Navi Mumbai Police based on digital tracking. According to officials, the student sent a threatening message demanding Rs 1 crore from rapper Mohammad Bilal Shaikh, popularly known as Emiway Bantai, under the pretext of being associated with gangster Goldy Brar.Police sources said the threat was sent shortly after the rapper released a tribute song for the late singer Sidhu Moosewala. The message, received on the official number of Bantai Music company, warned the rapper to pay Rs 1 crore within 24 hours or face death. The sender claimed to be gangster Goldy Brar and named other notorious figures such as Lawrence Bishnoi, Rohit Godara and gangster Lon group.Following the complaint filed by the rapper’s manager at the NRI police station in Seawoods, an FIR was registered and technical surveillance helped trace the accused’s location to Assam. A police team was dispatched and successfully detained the youth, who has since been brought to Navi Mumbai for further questioning.“The initial probe suggests the boy was influenced by someone over social media to send the message. We are investigating who might be behind the instructions. He has deleted the messages from Instagram and whatsapp and we are trying to recover them,” said a police officer. Further investigation is underway to trace the origin and motive behind the extortion threat.
