BCCI Distances Itself from RCB’s IPL Victory Parade After Tragic Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede In Bengaluru

In the wake of the tragic stampede that claimed 11 lives during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebrations on Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has clarified that it had no role in organizing or overseeing the event. The stampede, which occurred outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as thousands gathered to celebrate RCB’s first-ever IPL title, has sparked widespread concern over crowd management and event planning. Soon after the incident, BCCI officials stressed that the responsibility for the event rested entirely with the franchise and local authorities.BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia while speaking to The Indian Express about the incident, said, “Once the IPL final is over and after the presentation, BCCI has no role to play on what the franchise and the team go and do on their home ground. They (RCB) didn’t have to inform us or take our permission, and the BCCI doesn’t have to monitor them either.”BCCI Secretary Saikia emphasized the importance of coordination with law enforcement before holding large-scale public events. “While organising this kind of event, they should properly coordinate with local law enforcement authorities so that nothing untoward happens,”IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal also denied any prior knowledge of the celebrations or the scale of the crowd expected in Bengaluru. “We had no knowledge of any victory parade or celebrations planned in Bengaluru. We had no idea who organised it and how so many fans came there,”.He added that the RCB team was unaware of the chaos unfolding outside the stadium during the festivities. “The RCB management also had no idea what was happening outside because they were inside the stadium. As soon as we got to know, we spoke to RCB officials, and they informed us that they were winding up the celebrations. I am sure the state government and local administration would also take note of this event,”
