New Delhi: The Malayalam sports drama Alappuzha Gymkhana has finally been released on OTT. The movie is directed by Khalid Rahman, and hit the theatres two months ago, on April 10. The movie, after earning a decent amount at the Box Office, has now moved towards its digital debut.
Alappuzha Gymkhana stars Nalsen alongside Khalid Rahman, Lukman Avaran, Ganapathi S. Poduval, Sandeep Pradeep, Anagha Ravi, Franco Francis, Baby Jean, and Shiva Hariharan. The movie offers inspiration, patience, and a compelling storyline and has been appreciated by the audience during its theatrical release.
Alappuzha Gymkhana was released on SonyLiv on June 6. The film was released in five languages: Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi.
Set in the coastal town of Alappuzha, the plot revolves around five friends: Jojo Johnson, David ‘DJ’ John, Shifas ‘Valthu’ Ahammed, Shifas ‘Cherthu’ Ali, and Shanavas. The story begins when all these boys, except Shanavas, face setbacks when they fail in their 12th board exams.
After the setback, the boys decide to take admission in college through sports quota, and for that, they join Alappuzha Gymkhana boxing school under the guidance of a coach named Salim. The boys prepare themselves to take admission in the Kerala State Amateur Boxing Championship. But between the learning and preparedness, they discover that sports quota is a way out to take admission in college for further education seems to turn out to be the path of self-discovery, character building, and redemption.
The film earned a total of Rs 72.07 crores worldwide, which includes Rs 44.13 crores net from India and Rs 20 crores from overseas markets. Alappuzha Gymkhana is also listed as one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of the year.
