Chelsea want to wrap up next transfer before Club World Cup as £50m green light given

are hoping to wrap up a deal for Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens in time for him to compete for them at the Club World Cup. The 20-year-old has emerged as a target for Enzo Maresca's side as they look to add a right footed left winger to their squad.

Gittens has scored 12 times and provided five assists in 48 matches this season and he has attracted attention from several of Europe's elite, including Chelsea. The Blues are hoping to strengthen out wide and England Under 21s international Gittens is among the names on their shortlist.

According to , Jadon Sancho's departure from Chelsea has increased progress in a potential deal for Gittens, who is said to be 'keen on leaving' Dortmund this summer and has informed the German club about his decision.

Dortmund, meanwhile, are open to selling the player for a lower fee because of his 'average' performances in the second half of the season. As a result, £50.4million is expected to be enough for the Blues to secure a move for Gittens and they are hoping to wrap up a deal 'very quickly'.

In fact, the Blues are hoping to have Gittens in their squad for the Club World Cup. Maresca's side need to get a deal rubberstamped for Gittens by June 10, however, to ensure he can team up ahead of FIFA's revamped tournament, with Chelsea's first game taking place on June 16 against Leon.

The Blues then take on Flamengo on June 20 before facing ES Tunis five days later. It's a competition that Chelsea are going to be keen to win, despite the extra fixtures, as there is a staggering £97m prize pool for the winner.

Speaking to on Chelsea's involvement in the Club World Cup in the United States, Maresca said: "Well I'm happy, especially because as you've just said it's a tournament that brings together the top 32 teams in the world.

"So, it's very exciting to take part in such a huge competition. And you also have the opportunity to face other top coaches and some world class teams. We were there – in North America – last summer, and it was great. There were so many fans there and it will be another opportunity for them to come and watch us and for us to meet them. So, there's no doubt it will be a great occasion.

He added: "When you are at Chelsea your goal is always to win. So, our goal – each and every single game – will always be to try to win."
