From birthdays to festivals and corporate gestures, gifting is undergoing a quiet but powerful transformation
As sustainability becomes more than just a buzzword, it’s reshaping the way we think about everyday choices including how we give. From birthdays to festivals and corporate gestures, gifting is undergoing a quiet but powerful transformation. The new mantra? Thoughtful, ethical, and environmentally conscious.
While aesthetics and emotions remain at the heart of gifting, a growing number of consumers are asking deeper questions: How was this made? Who made it? What kind of impact does it have?
“Sustainability is no longer a niche consideration in gifting, it’s becoming part of the mainstream,” says Avi Kumar, CMO, FNP. “People are beginning to value gifts that are not just beautiful, but also meaningful and mindful.” According to Kumar, plant-based gifts and artisanal products with a lower environmental footprint are seeing increased demand, along with items that can be reused or repurposed. “Gifting will always be about celebration, but we believe it can also carry a quiet sense of responsibility,” he adds.
This shift isn’t limited to products—it’s also driving innovation across the entire gifting ecosystem. From packaging to sourcing, brands are rethinking every detail.
“There’s a growing awareness among consumers about the environmental and social impact of their choices—and gifting is no exception,” says Ashna Gemini Sharan, Portfolio Director, RX India. “From reusable materials and upcycled products to locally sourced, biodegradable, and artisanal gifts, sustainability is becoming a core consideration when choosing what to give.”
Sharan notes that events and trade platforms are playing a pivotal role in this transformation. “These gatherings give creators, brands, and conscious consumers an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and learn about innovations that align with a greener future. We’re seeing a celebration of craftsmanship, transparency, and responsibility—values that today’s consumers deeply resonate with.”
As more people look for gifts that align with their values and contribute to a better world, sustainable gifting is becoming more than just a trend, it’s a thoughtful revolution. One that is changing how we celebrate, express love, and build lasting connections.
