President Donald Trump has ordered 700 Marines into Los Angeles as immigration protests spiral into chaos. The move follows days of violence, looting and arson across the city despite National Guard troops already being deployed. California Governor Gavin Newsom responded by suing the Trump administration, calling the deployment "unlawful." Mr Trump hit back, suggesting he'd support the arrest of the "criminal" governor. He said: "I like Gavin Newsom... but he's grossly incompetent, everybody knows it."

Earlier defended his deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles, claiming: "We made a great decision in sending the National Guard to deal with the violent, instigated riots in California: "If we had not done so, Los Angeles would have been completely obliterated."
