On Thursday, Meghalaya Minister Alexander Laloo Hek described the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi as a "completely organized and premeditated crime."
According to police reports, all five main suspects, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, have been placed in police custody for eight days in connection with this case.
The minister emphasized that both the government and the citizens of Meghalaya are determined to see that those responsible for Raja Raghuvanshi's murder face legal consequences.
Minister Hek stated, "This incident was orchestrated by Sonam Raghuvanshi, indicating a clear intent to eliminate Raja Raghuvanshi from the start. We must pursue a thorough investigation, and the perpetrators should be held accountable under the law. The people of Meghalaya demand justice for this heinous act."
He also expressed relief that Raja Raghuvanshi's family has since apologized to the state government and police after initially blaming them for the tragedy.
Hek conveyed his condolences to the family of the deceased and praised the Meghalaya police for their swift action in apprehending the suspects.
The minister revealed that police discovered a mangalsutra and a ring in Sonam Raghuvanshi's suitcase, which was left at their homestay. He regarded this as a crucial piece of evidence.
"I believe this discovery is significant. The people and government of Meghalaya are united in wanting the accused to be punished according to the law," he stated.
Sonam Raghuvanshi, along with four other individuals, is accused of murdering her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, who had recently married and was on his honeymoon in Meghalaya.
Raja's body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge near Sohra, close to Cherrapunji in Meghalaya. Meanwhile, Sonam Raghuvanshi was located near a roadside eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. Both Raja and Sonam, residents of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, had gone missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.
