This hubby-to-be redefined falling in love.
A groom was so overcome with emotion on his wedding day that he fainted at the altar in front of his blushing bride and 200 guests, as seen in a viral video.
“When my bride walked in — looking even more stunning than usual — my body started to go weak,” Gustavo Schmitz, 25, told Jam Press of faceplanting during his big day, which went down Saturday, June 7, in Salete, Brazil.
Footage shows the dramatic moment that the aspiring hubby keeled over backward like a 90s comedy movie scene as the pastor and guests rushed to his side.
The teacher, who reportedly takes medication for anxiety issues, said the week leading up to the knot-tying ceremony had been “hectic with all the preparations.”
“The day itself was a rush — guests already arriving and loads of things to sort out,” he recalled. “I was already breathless when things started.”
Schmitz even told some of the incoming ushers that his body was “tingling” but they didn’t believe him because he had a reputation for “joking around.”
After all, it was a happy day for Schmitz, who had grown up with his bride-to-be Pâmela Berto, 23, in their small hometown of 7,000 people.
But when the love of his life entered the venue, the moment hit the educator like a tidal wave.
“I went to meet her on the red carpet aisle, and, as the pastor began speaking, I told her I wasn’t feeling well,” the educator recalled. “I was still joking a bit, so she believed me but didn’t realize how serious it was.”
Shortly afterward, he toppled to the floor. “When I fainted, she (Berto) grabbed my suit jacket, but I fell on her dress and she couldn’t hold me up,” said the stricken Shmitz, painting the scene. “The pastor ran over and grabbed my sleeve, stopping me from hitting my head on the floor.”
He added, “Then my friend Eduardo, who’s a doctor, came quickly, checked my pulse, and gave me first aid together with the pastor.”
After passing out a second time, Schmitz came to and continued with the ceremony.
Despite the unplanned fainting spell, he said that the wedding ended up being “beautiful and amazing.”
