Mehidy Hasan Miraz named as Bangladesh’s new ODI skipper, replaces Najmul Hossain Shanto

New Delhi: Bangladesh Cricket Board appointed Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the new captain of the mens One Day International (ODI) team effective immediately. He succeeds Najmul Hossain Shanto and will lead the team in their upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka next month. This appointment is for a one-year term.
“Captaining the national team is a dream come true. I’m incredibly honoured by the trust the Board has placed in me. This is a proud moment for me and my family he said.
I believe in this group we have the skills and the mindset to play fearless cricket. I want us to express ourselves confidently stay committed and keep playing with heart for the country” he further added.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz is currently the fourth-ranked all-rounder in the ICC ODI rankings. His ODI career includes 1617 runs and 110 wickets from 105 matches.
He became a member of an exclusive club having scored more than 1000 ODI runs and taken more than 100 ODI wickets in rare double. He is the follower of such famous gamers as Mohammad Rafique Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan.
The Bangladesh all-rounder has previously captained the national team in four ODIs while the regular captain was unavailable.
Nazmul Abedeen chairman of the BCB Cricket Operations Committee announced that Mehidy Hasan Miraz will be the new captain.
“Miraz has consistently delivered with both bat and ball and brings a fighting spirit and infectious energy to the team. His performances leadership qualities and overall maturity make him a fitting choice to guide the team through this transitional phase in our ODI journey” Nazmul Abedeen said.
“We are grateful for the positivity and character Shanto displayed during his captaincy stint. He remains an integral part of our leadership group and a key figure in the batting unit” he added.
