The crash involved Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that had departed from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport en route to London Gatwick. Tragically, the plane crashed just minutes after takeoff, claiming the lives of over 200 people, including crew and passengers. The tragedy triggered a wave of condolences across the country and Sunjay Kapur was among the many public figures who reacted.
Now, Sunjay Kapur’s heartfelt message is being widely circulated and talked about on social media, with many expressing disbelief and grief over the tragic coincidence. Several users noted the emotional weight of his words in light of what happened later, with some reflecting on the unpredictability of life and the irony of him expressing sorrow over a tragedy just before facing one himself.
Sunjay Kapur was a prominent figure in both business and social circles. Known for his love for motorsports and polo, he was previously married to actress Karisma Kapoor. The couple, who got married in 2003, parted ways in 2014 and finalised their divorce in 2016. They share two children—daughter Samaira and son Kiaan.
Before Karisma, Sunjay Kapur had been married to designer Nandita Mahtani, though their marriage ended in 2003 after two years. In 2017, he married model Priya Sachdev in a private ceremony reportedly held in Delhi. Together, they had a son named Azarias Kapur and they co-parented Priya’s daughter Safira Chatwal from her previous relationship.
Om Shanti.
