World War II enthusiasts have been left in tears after discovering the "best ever" series about the Nazis, which the BBC and Netflix previously streamed. Viewers have demanded that they return the haunting show to TV screens, calling it "important for mankind" and expressing concern over the parallels that are occurring in today's political sphere.

The show, Auschwitz: The Nazis and The Final Solution, is a six-episode film series that was first aired on BBC Two on January 11 2025, and told the story of the Auschwitz concentration camp from its early operations in 1940 to the prosecution of German Nazis involved in the operation of the camp.

The series included rarely seen contemporary colour and monochrome film from archives, as well as interviews with survivors, such as Dario Gabbai, and former German Nazis, including Oskar Gröning.

Scenes from the series have been uploaded to YouTube after it was removed from iPlayer and , and fans shared their emotional responses to the scenes.

Under one of the clips, a viewer wrote: "That opening song gives me goosebumps every time. This was an excellent documentary series." Another person responded: "Brilliant show, so well done and the music." While a third user commented: "It makes me cry when I see what happened back then."

Some viewers also revealed their frustration over the series being removed from streaming services. Someone else remarked: "Best Auschwitz docu EVER made.. Shame is nowhere to be found anymore.. Been searching the internet so many times." While a fifth fan added: "After it was aired on Netflix, I'm not able to find anywhere to watch all the episodes... If anyone has any info where to watch them all, please let me know, much appreciated."

A separate user remarked: "Didn't this used to be on Netflix? They always take away the best things. Where can I watch the whole thing? Where can I rewatch this documentary? It's totally necessary to remember some things in these dark times. Could you please post part two? I would greatly appreciate it. I already learned so much from the first one. This is incredibly well done with the reenactments also."

The series also includes modern footage of locations in and around the site of the Auschwitz German camp, and writer Laurence Rees stressed that the reenactments are not dramatisations but are exclusively based on documented sources.

He told : "There is no screenwriter... Every single word spoken is double- and in some cases, triple-sourced from historical records. The computer-generated reconstructions featured in the show use architectural plans that only became available in the 1990s when the archives of the former Soviet Union became accessible to Western historians."

The series has an 8.6 rating on IMDB and was called "BBC gold" by one reviewer who said: "2005 was a good year for the BBC. They had Rome, they resurrected the Doctor Who franchise - but before all that, they created Auschwitz - The Nazis and the "Final Solution", which was, without doubt, their best WWII show yet.

"This harrowing account of what life was like inside the Nazi death camp uses real life footage, powerful and realistic dramatisation sequences, and interviews with people who were there to create one of the most powerful mini-series ever broadcast on television."

Although it is no longer available to stream, it can be purchased on DVD from .
