Salernitana have won their appeal to have the Serie B relegation playout match with Sampdoria moved to June 22 after a massive food poisoning outbreak.

The first leg had already been played last Sunday, with Sampdoria winning 2-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

The return fixture was meant to be this Friday June 20 at the Stadio Arechi in Salerno.

However, within hours of that game, Salernitana suffered from a huge outbreak of food poisoning that the club said affected 21 people between players and staff.

Severely weakened by the illness, they appealed to have the second leg pushed back by a couple of days to give them time to recover.

The Lega Serie B accepted and it has been rescheduled to the evening of Sunday June 22, at 19.30 UK time (20.30 CET).

Serie B relegation playout seemingly cursed

It is the latest problem to befall the seemingly cursed playout, because originally it was meant to be between Salernitana and Frosinone.

Then it had to be delayed when Brescia were docked four points for financial irregularities, changing the Serie B table to save Frosinone, relegate Brescia, and put Samp back into the playout spots.
