New Delhi: Aamir Khan starrer Sitaare zameen par is scheduled to release in theatres on June 20, 2015. The film has created quite a good buzz among cine-goers ahead of its grand release. While the film’s advance booking is yet to open, as per trade analyst Girish Johar, the movie is expected to open at the Box Office in double digits. According to reports, the movie will be released in around 3000 screens and its run time is around 2 hours 35 minutes.
Now, in an exclusive conversation with News9, the producer and film business expert Girish Johar shed light on the expected Box Office collection of the film on its opening day. Let’s dive into further details!
According to the producer and film business expert Girish Johar, Aamir Khan’s highly anticipated film Sitaare zameen par is expected to open around Rs 10 crore, and with the good word of mouth, the opening day collection could be higher.
Speaking exclusively with us, Girish said, “It’s an Aamir Khan film, and so coming after a while, it does raise a lot of expectations every time Aamir Khan is on screen. We all know that this film, Sitare Zameen Par, is not an all-out commercial entertainer, and this is more of a meaningful, nuanced kind of film, targeting a particular set of audiences. It’s a remake also of Champion, which was made earlier in Hollywood. So, I’m expecting a good start. I’m expecting somewhere around a double-digit number to start the day.”
He further added, “Depending on its word of mouth, it can also go higher. And if the audience does not find a resonance or traction, it can come down. But I think it should open at least to a double digit at least. It should be Rs 10 crore at least to start with, is what I feel would be a good start for the film. And if the audience connects, the film can go much higher, also. But this number to start with would be a good ground to begin the race at the box office.”
On the other hand, the film critic Raj Bansal opined, “The film may take a decent opening in the current setting.”
Earlier, there was a report that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had asked for a few cuts in Sitaare zameen parbut Aamir has refused to make any changes in the film. However, after Aamir had a meeting with the censor board, the film was cleared by the CBFC.
When asked if the censor board is getting strict with the films while granting the certificate, Girish Johar told us, “If you are asking for a particular category of a censor certificate and what scenes they want to be toned down, that remains to be seen. So, you know, there are many grey areas while we discuss this. But yes, I do agree that, you know, our censor board has been a little prudent. They have been a little sharp. They are, you know, in giving out certificates. But I’m sure since we all know the issue has already been resolved between Aamir Khan and the censor board, and the censor certificate has been issued.”
