Palghar, Maharashtra: In a tragic incident that has shocked the local community, a 59-year-old man lost his life after accidentally falling from the third floor of his apartment building in Nalasopara (West) on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, Chito Gaurang Vishwas, a resident of West Avenue Co-operative Housing Society, was reportedly carrying out routine maintenance when the accident occurred.

According to the police report, Vishwas had gone to the third floor of his residential building around 6:45 am to shut off the water supply valve. During this task, he allegedly slipped and fell from the third floor to the ground level, sustaining grievous injuries.

Eyewitnesses immediately raised an alarm, and Vishwas was rushed to the Municipal Hospital in Nalasopara (West). Despite prompt medical attention, doctors declared him dead during the course of treatment. The tragic death was reported to the Nalasopara Police Station by Vishwas’ nephew, Shuva Ravi Naatuva (31).

The Nalasopara Police have registered a case of accidental death under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code. According to Police Sub-Inspector Pramod Jadhav, initial inquiries and witness statements support the version of an accidental fall. The police have not found any indications of external intervention or deliberate harm.

Senior Police Inspector Deepak Jagdale and Investigating Officer Vishal Valvi are overseeing the investigation. “All standard procedures, including a detailed panchnama (spot inspection) and post-mortem examination, are being conducted to officially close the case,” Jagdale informed.

The unfortunate death has raised concerns among local residents about the safety measures in housing societies, particularly in common areas like terraces and water supply points where routine maintenance work is often carried out without proper safety protocols.

The incident serves as a somber reminder of the need for enhanced safety awareness and infrastructure checks in residential complexes to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
