New Delhi: After announcing retirement from ODIs Australias Glenn Maxwell is enjoying the role of being the captain of Washington Freedom in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025. He scored a 49-ball 106 not out at Oaklad Coliseum in California in a game against Los Angeles Knight Riders including 13 sixes. LA Knight Riders collapsed after Washington Freedom scored 208 5 with the help of Maxwell in the first innings bowling out LA Knight Riders at 95. When the skipper got a century in front of his family he was ecstatic and relieved to reward head coach Ricky Ponting with the belief he had in him. Maxwell did not ballistic off the first. Once he had hit 11 runs in 15 balls. So he changed the gears to the top one and got his first century in his franchise. Following the victory Maxwell revealed how he failed Ponting at Punjab Kings (PBKS) and previously (Delhi Daredevils turned into Delhi Capitals). I gave myself a chance for sure. Being the captain you want to carry on for the team. I got to a position where I thought I could just go on. I had 155-160 in my mind Maxwell said in the post-match presentation. I feel like I was hitting well in India. Sometimes the results dont go your way. Just a bit of time is needed to get going. I have let him (Ricky Ponting) down in a couple of tournaments. I missed out playing for Punjab in the later stages of the IPL. Playing under Ricky we hopefully have a chance to add to last years trophy. During the Indian premier league (IPL) 2025 Maxwell only had 48 runs on his account out of the 6 innings. He was dropped and later ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. In the PBKS line up he was substituted with Washington Freedom teammate Mitchell Owen. PBKS of Shreyas Iyer reached the final but could not beat the former franchise of Maxwell Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six runs.
