Do you also travel on the national highway with your car and are worried about paying huge amount on the toll plaza every time? So there is good news for you! The Government of India has announced a new toll policy, which will not only make your journey economical, but will also save time. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recently informed through his X post that a fastag based annual pass of Rs 3000 will be started for non-commercial private vehicles from 15 August 2025. This pass promises to make the highway travel easier, cheap and relaxed for millions of vehicle owners. Let’s know in detail about this new policy.

Annual fastag pass: What is special?

This initiative of the Central Government is going to prove to be a boon for those who travel regularly on the national highway. This annual fastag pass of Rs 3000 will be valid for one year or 200 trip, which is completed earlier. This means that the cost of each trip will be only 15 rupees. Currently, the toll plaza has to be paid from 100 to 300 rupees at a time. For example, if you travel 95 km from Noida to Gajraula (NH-9), then you have to pay Rs 175 on the chaizarasi toll plaza and Rs 120 on Garhmukteshwar toll plaza, ie a total of Rs 295. But with this new pass, you will be able to complete the same journey for very low cost.

How will this work pass?

The process of activating and renewing this pass will be very easy. Soon a link will be available on the official website of the highway travel app, NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport, from where you will be able to purchase and renew it. If you complete 200 trips in 6 months, then you have to recharge again. At the same time, even if you do 50 trips in a year, the validity of the nearby will end at the end of the year. This policy is especially beneficial for those who pass through the toll plaza repeatedly within a radius of 60 km. This will not only save your money, but will also give relief from the long queues on the toll plaza.

A new hope for passengers

For some time, the discussion was in full swing that the government is going to make major changes in the toll policy. Now with the announcement of this annual pass, it has become clear that the government is taking care of the convenience and pockets of the passengers. Earlier there were rumors that near Rs 3000 could travel on the highway without any additional toll throughout the year or a fixed toll of Rs 50 will be applicable every 100 km. However, the government has currently approved an annual pass of Rs 3000. The proposal for ‘Lifetime Fastag’ (15 years valid for Rs 30,000) has been canceled in the first discussion.

Why is this policy special?

This new toll policy is not only economical, but it will also reduce the time taken on the toll plaza. Millions of private vehicle owners will now get experience of fast, smooth and affordable journey. Especially for those who travel regularly on the National Highway due to work or personal reasons, this is a big gift. In addition, the facility of purchasing and renewing passes through digital platforms makes it even more useful.

What else is possible in the future?

However, it is not yet clear whether the government will implement distance -based toll structure (50 rupees every 100 km). But this annual pass is a revolutionary step in itself. This policy will not only reduce the burden on the pockets of the passengers, but will also promote digital and transparent toll payment system. If you also travel regularly on the national highway, then be prepared for this pass, because it is going to make your journey even easier and economical.
