In a village located in the Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh, police have apprehended six individuals, including a village head and an assistant engineer, in connection with an alleged scam involving over ₹38 lakh from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) funds. This information was confirmed by an official on Thursday.
According to Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar, approximately two and a half months ago, the Block Development Officer of Pachpedwa lodged a complaint regarding the embezzlement of ₹38.49 lakh for pond construction work in the village of Vishanpur Tantnwa, based on fraudulent documents of laborers.
The investigation conducted by the police corroborated the allegations. The official stated that based on the registered case, the accused involved in the misappropriation of government funds—village head Abdul Wahab, Block Development Officer Girija Shankar, employment worker Mohammad Zubair Khan, additional program officer Atul Kumar Mishra, assistant engineer Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary, and Block Development Officer Ajay Yadav—were arrested on Wednesday night.
