Manchester United have been linked with a blockbuster move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez. The former Arsenal stopper is reportedly open to leaving Villa Park this summer and is said to be keen on joining the Red Devils. Martinez is under contract until the summer of 2029, meaning Villa are under no pressure to sell if they are not interested in letting him leave.

United have already tested the waters by making contact with Villa to learn their demands, according to Argentine outlet Ole. A transfer fee of around £34million would reportedly be enough to secure his signature. However, the Red Devils could attempt to drive down that price by including one of their existing stars in the deal.

Express Sport looks at three potential candidates to trade places with Martinez...

Andre Onana

The obvious one would be Onana, who has struggled to prove himself at United since joining from Inter Milan two years ago. He made a series of glaring mistakes last season, raising the prospect of the Red Devils seeking a new goalkeeper in the summer.

Before moving to Old Trafford, the Cameroon international was considered among the best in the world and a change of scenery could be just what he needs to rediscover his form. Therefore, a swap deal with Martinez could suit everybody involved.

Altay Bayindir

United could also decide to throw Bayindir into a deal that would see Martinez move the other way. He has shown glimpses of promise when called upon but is still very much a work in progress and has failed to earn a regular starting spot.

That said, the Turkish stopper has plenty of room for growth at 27 and is a younger alternative to Martinez. If he can kick on at Villa, he could become their first-choice goalkeeper for several years to come.

Jadon Sancho

Although he would not be a direct replacement for Martinez, there is a chance Villa would be tempted to accept Sancho as part of a deal. They have already been linked with a move for the winger, with The Sun reporting that several clubs are interested in snapping him up.

Villa passed up on a permanent move for Marcus Rashford at the end of his loan spell, but Sancho would bring different qualities. For one, he is younger, and showed flashes of brilliance during a mostly underwhelming stint at Chelsea last season.

United are desperate to get rid of Sancho and involving him in a part-exchange deal to sign Martinez could benefit them as well as Villa. However, there is no guarantee that Unai Emery would feel the same way.
