Sourav Ganguly is undoubtedly one of the greatest players and captains that India has ever produced. He is also, without a doubt, the greatest sportsman that has ever come out of West Bengal. Back home, he is considered one of the biggest icons and has a legendary ffan following Time and again, there have been rumours as to whether he would join politics, having been a successful cricket administrator, with stints as Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president. Theree have been rumours that he would even be considered as a candidate for the next West Bengal chief minister with the Assembly Elections in 2026.
In an interaction with PTI, Ganguly was asked whether he was interested in entering politics before the 2026 elections, and whether he would consider the offer more lucrative if he were offered the position of becoming the next chief minister of West Bengal. To this, the legendary India captain vehemently stated that he will never accept any offer related to politics. "I am not interested,” he categorically stated.
Sourav Ganguly was also asked which party he would join if given the choice to enter politics. He said that he is not interested in politics and just likes to observe the proceedings.
“It’s not as easy as you say. I get the opportunity (to enter politics) every year, but I don’t think that’s my cup of tea. I have no interest in politics, I just observe because a country and a state’s progress is directly attached to people who run it," Ganguly added.

Sourav Ganguly Confirms Start Date Of Biopic

In the interaction, Sourav Ganguly confirmed that actor Rajkummar Rao will be essaying his role in a much-awaited biopic on his life. He confirmed the shooting would start in January 2026.
“The shooting will start in January, the pre-production, scripting and story writing take a lot of time, shooting does not take much time,” the former India captain said.
