Benidorm fans are calling for the return of the popular sitcom - and they even think there are signs that it could happen. The programme, which last graced UK screens in 2018, follows the escapades of British holidaymakers at the Solana resort.
Despite creator Derren Litten's 2019 announcement that the tenth instalment would conclude the series, April saw fans buzzing with rumours of a revival. Speculation reached fever pitch when a TikToker caught sight of a film crew in action, leading him to surmise they were shooting the much-anticipated series 11.
The TikTok user, Harry, known as @harrytokky, captioned his video showing the crew outside the Red Lion pub: "Breaking news. Film crews are filming right now in Benidorm outside the Red Lion".
He tantalisingly added: "Wait... are they filming Benidorm series 11 right now?! What do you think?"
His footage captured the crew in full swing, as he exclaimed: "Holy moly, this is unbelievable". In the short clip, an onlooker even ponders aloud if it could be linked to series 11.
Yet, the comments section hosted its share of doubters, with one woman quashing the rumour armed with insights she'd gleaned from the film crews themselves.
Speculation ran wild on whether Benidorm would be gracing our screens again.
One sceptic weighed in: "I doubt they'd film in peak season," yet another countered with insider info: "Another 4 weeks until peak season. They film in the 'Solana' with people on holiday there. They just close off one end of the pool".
"It's common knowledge they rope in holidaymakers as extras in Benidorm," another claimed.
A more cynical viewer said: "Not to be a Debbie Downer, but Benidorm hasn't officially been commissioned, so unless this is for an announcement ad (which I highly doubt), it's not Benidorm unfortunately".
Yet hope was kept alive by someone who noticed the cast's suggestive social media activity. They theorised: "Makes sense it would be Benidorm though, cause Darren and all the main cast have been cryptic as f*** lately online trying to hint to the fans about a season 11 coming, wouldn't talk about it if there was no chance and now this. I'd say it's likely I can't lie".
Curiosity continued to grow as more tourists reported seeing the crew. However, they cast doubt about whether the production will actually be a British comedy.
One said: "We were walking down before and my dad asked the light crew. They said they can't say what it is but it's a Spanish program!"
And yet another individual demystified some rumours by claiming: "They're making a film, not Benidorm. I asked them last night."
Only time will tell if the rumour mill is actually correct!
