In the first Test match played in Leeds between India and England, Rishabh Pant made history with the bat. He made a unique record by scoring a century in both innings. He became the first and world’s second wicketkeeper batsman to do so by playing 134 runs in the first innings and 118 runs in the second.

Pant is at the forefront of Gilchrist-Dhoni
The 27 -year -old Pant is now seen ahead of the records of Australia veteran Adam Gilchrist and former India captain MS Dhoni. He has scored 3200 runs so far in his 44 Test career – which is more than both Gilchrist and Dhoni.
However, Pant is still behind Gilchrist in terms of average and strike rate.

📊 Comparative performance of all three wicketkeeper batsmen after 44 Tests:
Player innings run average strike rate half -century/century
Rishabh Pant 77 3200 44.44 74.03 15/8
Gilchrist 62 2940 58.80 82.65 16/8
Dhoni 68 2465 41.77 60.96 17/4

Gilchrist scored 5570 runs in a total of 96 Tests in his career, including 17 centuries and 26 half -centuries. His strike rate was 81.96.

Opinion of Greg Chappell: “Pant is changing the definition of game”
Former Australian captain and former India coach Greg Chappell praised Pant and said,

“When I first saw Rishabh, they remind me of Gilchrist. His way of playing is a different, but the effect is the same – the match is winning. He is giving a new look to cricket.”

He said that Pant’s ability to score fast runs gives India time to win the match. According to him, many of Pant’s shots are not found in the traditional book of MCC – but they are very impressive and unexpected.

A rare achievement: only second wicketkeeper who scored a century in two innings after Andy Flower
Pant is the second wicketkeeper to score a century in both innings of the Test. Earlier, the Andy Flower of Zimbabwe did such a feat against South Africa in 2001 (142 and 199 not out).

Team India defeat, but Pant won heart
Despite Pant’s strong innings, India lost by 5 wickets in the first Test. England achieved a target of 371 runs in a badgeball style in just 82 overs. The second Test of the series will be played in Birmingham from July 2.
