Puri, the pilgrimage town in Odisha, is all decked up to witness one of the biggest festivals in the world – Jagannath Rath Yatra. The festival begins today, June 27. It is believed that lakhs of devotees, not just from India but across the world, will attend this festival. In this festival, devotees pull the chariots of the three deities: Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra (his brother) and Devi Subhadra (his sister).
According to legend, the three siblings spend a week at the Gundicha Temple and then return to the Puri Jagannath Temple. The Rath Yatra is observed every year and dates back to the ancient ages.
