Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par (2007), has finally hit theatres. The film had been highly anticipated, promising another heartwarming and uplifting tale, this time featuring 10 fresh new faces making their big-screen debut.
With a trailer that struck an emotional chord and songs that became instant favourites, audiences were eager to experience the film on the big screen. And now, as the film opens to a thunderous response across cinemas, Aamir Khan is 'grateful' to the response. Farhan Khan Was Aamir Khan's First Choice For Sitaare In a recent chat with Pinkvilla, Aamir shared his happiness after receiving a successful response for Sitaare. The actor also shared a shocking detail regarding film's direction that none of us saw coming. Farhan Akhtar, actor-writer-producer-director, was the first choice for Sitaare Zameen Par . Yes, you read it right. Talking to the media portal, Aamir revealed. "Farhan was supposed to do it actually. What happened was that when Laal Singh Chaddha didn't do well, I was emotionally upset, I was broken, actually. So I thought I needed a break, I would take a break and not do a film for a while." Further, he added, "I told Prasanna, the director of Sitaare, and he was very understanding. He was disappointed but very understanding. He understood my emotional state and said, 'Sir, don't worry, but at least produce this film. I don't want to lose you as a producer.' So it was okay, I would produce, not act. We spoke to Farhan, we spoke to Shivakartikh as Sitaare was being made in two languages, Hindi and Tamil. So there was a Tamil version with Shiva and a Hindi version with Farhan. Everything was set, dates were locked." "Now as a producer, I always sit with the writer and director on the last draft of the script, which usually happens a week before. As a producer, I sit with them to make sure we haven't missed anything, and the script is right or not, so I sat with Prasanna and Divya for a week, and at that time, Farhan and Shivakarthik were locked in for the film. Now, what's happening is that when we started working, and we were reading out the scenes, and we were stopping to discuss each scene and correct it, I would often think, 'This script is so good, why am I not acting in it?'" The actor went on to share, "After seven days, I told Prasanna, 'I have a confession to make. The script is so good that every day, I had this thought 10-15 times, wondering why I'm not doing it.' Prasanna said, 'Then why aren't you doing it? You should do it.' But it was too late; Farhan was already doing the film, and Shivakarthik was also locked in. Prasanna said, 'Sir, you're my first choice, please do it.' I said, 'How can I talk to them now? They'll think I've changed my mind.' But Prasanna waited for me, and I couldn't deny him. He had directed Shubh Mangal Savdhaan, and after that, he didn't make any films for 8-7 years." "When I finally spoke to Farhan and Shivakarthik, they were both very supportive. They said, 'No, no, sir, you were Prasanna's first choice, and that's what's right.' I'm glad I finally came back to the film, and it was a wonderful journey," he concluded.
