
Key accused Gawal Sheikh, allegedly involved in a powerful bomb blast in which a teenage girl was killed at Kaliganj in Nadia on June 23,, was arrested from a hideout by the West Bengal police, official sources said today.Krishnanagar Police District Commissionerate Superintendent of Police Amarnath K said the key accused Gawal Sheikh and his son Bimal Sheikh were arrested from a hideout at Katoa under Bardhaman district last night.
He said so far nine named accused of the tortal 24 have been arrested since teenager Tamanna Khatun, a class IV girl was killed on June 23. The blast happened when a group of TMC revelers was celebrating the lead of the TMC candidate Alifa Ahmed in mid-noon, much before the final result was out on that day.
Victim's mother Sabina Bibi has filed a written complaint with the local police station naming 24 accused persons, of whom Gawal Sheikh was the prime suspect. Sabina Bibi alleged that Gawal Sheikh had ordered his group to throw bombs towards the supporters of the CPI(M) in the locality.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also condemned the blast and ordered the administration to arrest those involved in the blast.SP Amarnath K said they were investigating the murder and search operation was continued to find out the remaining suspects.
