A man was arrested in northwest Melbourne, and police discovered human remains in the search for Joshua Bishop, a Victorian man who has been missing for a month. The 27-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, June 28, 2025, following a search warrant carried out at a home on Erinbank Crescent in Westmeadows where police found the remains believed to be that of missing man Bishop.

Bishop was last seen in Lalor Crescent in Sunbury at about 9.30pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, by his housemate. Two days later, the 23-year-old was reported missing on May 29, 2025, by his mother.

Following the arrest of the 27-year-old man, the residential street was cordoned off, and a crime scene was established. According to 9 News, police from the major crime scene unit will try to process the scene. The remains found have not been formally identified, but police believe they are of the missing Sunbury man.

In a statement, Victoria Police informed that the 27-year-old is expected to be questioned by detectives. No charges have been laid so far. The shocking discovery was made approximately 32 km away from Bishop’s Sunbury home, according to local media reports.

Earlier this month, the family of the missing man issued an urgent plea for information and described his disappearance as "out of character". "Josh was really open with me; we had a really good relationship," Bishop's mother, Kristie, said, 9 News reported. "This is not something he would do unless he felt he had to."

Speaking about Bishop, his father, Travis, said that he was "loved by everyone" and doesn't believe he would have any enemies. "Someone has to know something," he said. "We've had a lot of support, but we still haven't got any closer to our son, which is hard," he further stated.
