West Indies Coach Penalized for Comments on Umpiring

In Bridgetown, Daren Sammy, the coach of the West Indies cricket team, has been fined 15% of his match fee due to his public remarks regarding TV umpire Adrian Holdstock during the first Test against Australia held in Barbados.

This penalty was imposed following Sammy's comments during a press conference after the second day of play, where he urged for uniformity in the Decision Review System (DRS) after several controversial decisions at Kensington Oval.

Sammy voiced his discontent over two caught behind decisions that were referred to Holdstock, noting that while Australia’s Travis Head was ruled not out, West Indies’ Shai Hope was given out.

He also highlighted two differing lbw referrals involving West Indies captain Roston Chase and Australia’s Cameron Green.

Sammy stated, "When there’s doubt in something, just be consistent across the board. From the images that we’re seeing, the decisions are not fair enough for both teams... I just want fairness."

This incident marks Sammy's debut as the West Indies Test team coach, and he admitted to violating the ICC's code of conduct by making inappropriate comments about a match official.

Additionally, fast bowler Jayden Seales received a similar fine of 15% for his send-off directed at Australian captain Pat Cummins on the first day.

Australia emerged victorious in the first Test, winning by 159 runs and taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
