Chelsea and Brighton have agreed a deal for the signing of Joao Pedro, football.london understands.

The Brazil international is set to sign a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge after a breakthrough in negotiations was made.

The fee for the 23-year-old is understood to be £55million plus £5million in add-ons with Enzo Maresca getting the versatile attacker he was after. Chelsea have been keen admirers of Pedro for a while now but advanced with their interest just over 10 days ago where the west Londoners made contact with Brighton over a possible move.

He likely become the Blues' fifth summer arrival in addition to Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadour Sarr with the latter trio all having their moves confirmed.

Capable of playing as the striker or slightly further back, Chelsea will have an exciting talent on their books. This move likely rules out any formal pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike or Victor Osimhen of Napoli with both attackers linked.

Some marquee exits are now expected to take place with Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku the most likely candidates to depart and raise significant funds.

The latter scored a decisive goal in the Club World Cup last-16 triumph over Benfica but it looks as though that could be his last contribution with his replacement identified.

Unlike Gittens, as he has already featured for Borussia Dortmund at the tournament in the United States, Pedro can make his Chelsea debut over the coming days with the plan being for his medical to take place in Brazil before he travels to America and joins up with his new teammates.

He will become the fourth Brighton player to make that same switch over the last few years, following in the footsteps of Moises Caicedo, Robert Sanchez and Marc Cucurella. Unlike Gittens, as he has already featured for Borussia Dortmund, the plan is for Pedro to join up with the Chelsea squad at the Club World Cup.
