What happens to Aadhaar after death

After a person's death, his family has to take care that important documents like Aadhaar are not misused. Nowadays, news of misuse of Aadhaar keeps coming out, fraudsters keep looking for opportunities to misuse someone's documents. The Unique Identification Authority of India does not have any rules to cancel the Aadhaar of the deceased. That is, if a person dies, his Aadhaar is not automatically cancelled.

The relatives of the deceased have the option to lock it. For this, they have to go to the official website - www.uidai.gov.in. After going to the website, they have to select the option of My Aadhaar, from here they have to choose the option of Aadhaar Services. After this step, the option of Lock/Unlock Biometrics will be available, click there. For this you have to fill in 12 digit Aadhaar number and captcha. After this, an OTP will come, you have to fill it. After doing this, the option to lock/unlock Aadhaar will appear. After clicking on the lock, the Aadhaar of the deceased person will be locked.

How is PAN card closed

Along with Aadhaar card, PAN card is also a very important document. It is used for everything from opening an account to filing income tax returns. According to the rules, if a person dies, his family members should surrender the PAN card. You can surrender it by contacting the Income Tax Department. However, before surrendering it, you should get all the bank accounts in the name of the deceased transferred to your name, otherwise there will be a problem later.
