Chaturmas niyam: In Hinduism, Chaturmas is made from Devshayani Ekadashi. In which marriage, marriage, home entry and manglic work etc. are stopped. Even after these sanctions, some works can be done during Chaturmas. The time of Chaturmas is known as the sleeping period of Lord Vishnu, and during this time many auspicious works are considered taboo. However, there are some works that can be done in this holy period, provided it is very important to take care of some things.

According to the almanac, in 2025 this year, four months Chaturmas will start from the Devshayani Ekadashi of Ashada month, which is on 6 July. And it ends at the Devauthani Ekadashi of Kartik month. This time this Devuthani Ekadashi is on 1 November and Chaturmas will end on this day.

Current work in Chaturmas

  1. It is believed that Chaturmas is mainly a time of spiritual progress and self-thinking. During this time you can do this work.
  2. During the Chaturmas, worshiping, chanting and reciting Lord Vishnu, Shiva and other deities is considered highly fruitful. Yajna and havan can also be performed during this period.
  3. When Chaturmas is going on, it is considered auspicious to travel to religious places and bathe in holy rivers.
  4. It is very virtuous to donate, eat food, donate clothes or help any kind.
  5. According to religious belief, it is auspicious to plant holy plants like Tulsi, Peepal, Amla in Chaturmas. This period is very suitable for the study of spiritual texts, scriptures and other enlightening books.
  6. During Chaturmas, people should practice meditation and yoga to calm and concentrate the mind.

These things have to be taken care of

  1. During the days of Chaturmas, Manglik works like marriage, home entry, shaving, inauguration of new business are not done in Chaturmas. It is believed that due to the sleeping of Lord Vishnu, his blessings are not found in these works.
  2. Satvik food should be taken during Chaturmas. Garlic, onion, meat, alcohol and tamasic food should be avoided. Some people especially eat food in Chaturmas or some special foods (such as leafy vegetables, yogurt).
  3. It is important to follow celibacy and control your senses. Try to stay away from negative feelings like anger, greed, fascination.
  4. During this time, a simple lifestyle should be adopted. Avoid unnecessary enjoyment and performance. Regularity should be maintained in worship and spiritual activities.
  5. During the period of Chaturmas, taking Guru Diksha or taking some kind of initiation is considered auspicious, because it is a time of spiritual development.
  6. The purpose of Chaturmas is to deepen self-purification, dedication to religion and deepening to God. By following these rules, you can take maximum advantage of this sacred period.
