Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana first glimpse unveiled: Ranbir as Ram, Yash as Ravana

Mumbai: The first official glimpse of filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated mythological film Ramayana has been released, ending months of speculation. The three-minute preview showcases a visually stunning introduction to the epic story, rooted in Indian tradition and culture.

Ramayana, said to be one of India’s most expensive films with a reported budget of over Rs 800 crore, will be released in two parts — the first during Diwali 2026 and the second in Diwali 2027. The first look was screened in major Indian cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Kochi.

The film features a powerful ensemble cast:

Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram

Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita

Yash, who also co-produces the film, as Ravana

Sunny Deol as Hanuman

Ravie Dubey as Lakshman

Glimpse details
The teaser opens with visuals of the divine trinity — Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva — and indicates the beginning of a massive battle when the balance of the universe is threatened. Ranbir Kapoor appears as Lord Ram in an intense sequence, preparing for war. In the final moments, Yash is introduced as Ravana, with half of his face revealed, building anticipation.

The tagline of the teaser reads: “Our truth, our history.”

Global technical collaboration
The project brings together international talent. For the first time, legendary composers A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer are collaborating to compose the film’s soundtrack.

Action scenes are choreographed by renowned Hollywood stunt directors Terry Notary (Avengers, Planet of the Apes) and Guy Norris (Mad Max: Fury Road). The film’s grand sets and visuals are designed by Ravi Bansal and Ramsey Avery, known for their work on global blockbusters like Dune 2 and Tomorrowland.

Visual effects are being created by DNEG, an Oscar-winning studio known for its work in several Hollywood productions.

The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. It is being made for premium viewing formats including IMAX, promising an immersive theatrical experience.
