Initiatives to Enhance Dairy Development

Itanagar, July 3: The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) is set to establish milk unions and federations in Arunachal Pradesh to advance the dairy industry.

Initially, five milk unions will be created, each corresponding to one of the state's river basins, starting with the Lohit, Namsai, and Lower Dibang Valley districts within the Lohit River basin, as stated by S Roy, the NDDB Kolkata regional head, during a training session for enumerators and supervisors held at Chowkham circle in Namsai.

Efforts will also be made to establish milk unions in the Siang, Subansiri, Kameng, and Tirap basins.

These unions will collectively form a state-level 'milk federation', which is expected to create new opportunities in the dairy sector and related activities.

D Longri, the director of State Animal Husbandry Veterinary and Dairy Development, emphasized the importance of completing the survey work on time, setting a deadline of July 31, 2025, for the Lohit basin.

He expressed concern that several districts, despite their significant dairy potential, have not taken steps to form dairy cooperative societies.

This lack of initiative has hindered Arunachal's progress under the White Revolution 2.0, according to the official.

Longri noted that the establishment of a milk union in the Lohit, Namsai, and Lower Dibang Valley areas would serve as a model for other unions, urging district veterinary officers to prioritize the survey and ensure its timely completion.
