Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): To deal with the challenges of the modern era policing, the syllabus of police constable training in the state has been changed, said officials here on Thursday.

The change, implemented in all police academies of the state this June, will ensure that apart from learning the significance of the Constitution, organisation, the Police Act, constables are also trained in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the criminal law that was enforced in 2024, replacing the IPC.

During training, the focus now isn’t on just keeping the constables fit and alert. They are being given modern training on the lines of the BSF to deal with emergencies.

The training branch has changed the decades-old pattern of drill and physical fitness given to the police personnel before joining the service. Now, circuit training ensures the trainees do different activities within the stipulated time, instead of one kind of exercise. Challenges are given in physical fitness, the gymnasium, and crossing obstacles.

When AI meets bamboo

For the first time in the training, bamboo sticks and AI are helping cadets correct their posture.  Cadets start marching with bamboo fixed to their hands and feet. The whole activity is recorded on different video cameras. Later, cadets are guided by AI as to their mistakes and corrective measures.

Legal course through videos, cartoons

Videos and cartoons help explain the content now. For example, through short videos, constables are being told when to handcuff the accused and when not to. Similarly, the importance of the BNS is being explained through cartoons, slides, and audio clips. This medium helps constables easily grasp legal provisions. At the end of the week, the SP of the academy draws the roster and training to be given the next week.
