There is a steady increase in cases of online fraud and cyber thugs are trying to rob people every day by adopting new tactics. In this series, Cyber Security Awareness Campaign ‘Cyber Dost’, working under the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India, has issued a warning regarding a fake app ‘5pit Trade’.
Cyber thugs form a copy of real and popular trading apps. One such app is ‘5pit Trade’, whose logo resembles exactly the 5paisa app. Common people come into confusion and consider it real and download it in their device. After this, they create an account on this app and share personal information, such as bank details, passwords, and OTP. This is the occasion when scammers reach their bank accounts and blow all the money.
If your smartphone has an app installed an app named 5pit Trade, then delete it immediately. But before removing the app, it is important that you remove your bank details, card information and personal data from the app in advance. Otherwise your sensitive information can remain with cyber thugs.
Cyber Dost has asked people to beware of this app through a post on its official X (East Twitter) account. A screenshot has also been shared in the post, in which the logo of Apple App Store is seen, which shows that this app was also available on the Apple platform at some time.
The government’s appeal is that if you get information about any fake app or suspicious link, then immediately report it to cybercrime.gov.in or Cyber Dost. Also, make your friends and family aware of such scams.
In the digital age, where trading and investment has now become common through mobile apps, the risk of fraud has become equally bigger. Therefore, before downloading any app, please go to the information, review and official website and confirm it.
